Do you have a favorite charity? How about a favorite charitable quilt project?
I have several. First, I’ve been involved with Quilts of Valor for a good long time. Check them out over at www.qovf.org, and look under the QOV tab to find out more about my involvement.
Second, I’m involved in making baby quilts for the NICU at our local hospital. This is through the Tarheel Quilters Guild, and they make up really fast. Between this project and Project Linus, there are plenty of opportunities for us as quilters to use up our orphan blocks for a fast baby quilt to give away.
Third, the Tarheel QG also makes veteran’s quilts for the local VA hospital. These are small lap sized quilts, and are also fairly quick to make up.
I enjoy these charities because they are local needs. It gives us, as quilters, a good reason to keep sewing. When all your own beds are well covered, it’s easy to take a little extra fabric and give back with it!
