String Pieced Quilt of Valor

1 06 2012

Here’s another Quilt of Valor that came “off the presses” just today.

I can’t wait to see what this one will look like when it’s done being quilted!

1974 Value Quilt

26 03 2012

{The Quilt} is finished! Downton Abbey, not so much!

I love the music, the British accents, the clothing, and the interior shots of the castle.

It makes a really good background to piecing together a quilt.

I did finally decide on a value quilt, using two charm packs of the coveted 1974.

The other two options, zig-zags and pinwheels have both been done beautifully on Flickr.

Wanna see? Here is the 1974 pinwheel, and here is the 1974 zig-zag.

Both gorgeous, huh?

A Blue One

6 03 2012

Since it was so easy peasy to put together, I made up a blue and green turning twenty quilt for Quilt of Valor. Well, it might be for Quilts of Valor! Hubby likes both the yellow and grey quilt and the blue and green quilt. I’ve asked him to pick one of the two for his own. The other will go to QOV, a worthy cause, to be sure!

Turning Twenty aka The 5 Hour Quilt

1 03 2012

So, I had a few yards of Hope Valley, a few yards of Origins by Basic Grey, and a few grey fat quarters with grey and words. And I’ve been wanting to try this pattern for a while. I took a chance on all these fabrics working together and I’m THRILLED with the results! Not only does this quilt really make a visual impact, it was way fast. I’m loving how quickly it went together! If you’re considering a quick, large-ish quilt or a charity quilt, this is the perfect pattern for it.

Wrapping it Up….

21 12 2010

I’m wrapping today!!

Notice I am not ‘rapping’, which is far from my forte.

Hmmm…..that’d be entertaining…..

No, I’m playing Santa’s elf and wrapping for family.

My wrap station is all set up

{although I’d love one of these bad larries from

Pottery Barn to keep me organized}.

On another note, I’m glad to finally be able to post about this little quilt,

which made it to its destination last week and is no longer a secret.

I started with an embroidered wreath from Floral Visions and ended with some free motion quilting.

Check out Leah Day’s site for detailed quilting instructions, because her work is ‘awesomest colossalist’.

Merry Christmas to ya’!!

Pinwheel Sampler Quiltalong Finish

17 12 2010

Yaaaaayyyyy!!

{That’s the sound of a complete queen size quilt.}

It’s Make Life, from Moda, and the pattern is Rachel’s Pinwheel Sampler Quiltalong.

While I enjoy every bit of the process (except perhaps borders-blah),

once I work with a colorway for several months, I’m ready to put it to use.

This quilt found a home as it rolled off the press!

A Sneak Peek-Blush

16 05 2010

This little bit ‘o sweetness is a quilted table runner, on it’s way to a friend. It’s a surprise! Shhh!

A bit more channel quilting, which is one of my new weeknesses!

It’s made from Blush by BasicGrey, and Mr. Wonderful almost laid claim to it.

Sorry, charlie-it’s the wrong initial, and she’s a wonderful friend!

Happy Day, Girlie!

Ummm…..Derrrr!

25 04 2010

Ok, so I can safely say that this has ranked among the toughest weeks of my life.

 It’s been a train wreck.

Sad thing was, I saw it coming, smiled, and I even think I waved to the conductor!

I’ll stop short of whining, because you get the idea.

While it was a stressful week, I made sure to package up and send off

a little surprise for my swap partner over on a flickr swap group.

I took really good pictures of the process for you all a few weeks back,

and those are the ones you’re seeing throughout this post.   EXCEPT…..I forgot to take a final picture of the finished quilt.

”Congratulations, you’ve just earned your Uh-Durr patch!” ;) Full episode here and here.

I hope the “in progress” pictures work for you, and a link to my partner’s flickr photo.

Hopefully I can come back and laugh, but right now,

I’m amazed….just speachless.

Stress apparently renders me flighty.

Update: 4/29 I’m feeling much more like myself now!! This little quilt was a blast to sew. I started with my scrap-alicious pile pictured here, sorted and mixed until I had the right colors represented, then sewed rows. I interviewed white as the background, but it didn’t sparkle, so, I tried several different solids before settling on the aqua. It’s actually Kona Blue, which looks aqua to me. Anyway….. Once that was done, it was time to figure out quilting. Remember, this little baby is 8 inches by 12 inches, so it needed machine quilting that didn’t overwhelm its size. I tried out decorative stitches on the Bernina 830 (♥), which is the sample you see above, to find one the right size stitch. This one is a 5mm, so it came out looking like teeny tiny embroidery…..yeah! After that, my daughter and I admired it a few days. We decided it needed something, especially to go to a hip, modern quilter like my swap partner. The 3-D element came to me later when I went to this quilt show. (Did you know there is a 3-D home television now? Mr. Wonderful says I *need* it, teeheehee! Do I? No, but he seems to!!) There are folded and sewn flower patterns all over the web, but I love this source the most. And the button? Totally a cute factor! So, with a bit of binding and a sleeve, along with some goodies, it was sent, never to be photographed by me…..alas!

The Quilt Puzzle

21 04 2010

Found while browsing this huge outlet mall, which I just discovered

(after living in this town entirely too long to not know about a huge outlet mall nearby).

Um, aren’t all quilts puzzles? To my puzzling mind, I enjoy putting together the pattern part to make all the pieces fit well and beautifully.

Puzzle: 7 dollars. Completing 6 quilts in 3 days: Priceless. Time with my family teaching them one of my favorite brain growing activities: way too short.
