About two weeks ago, a large orbital web spider took up his residence outside our picture window in the kitchen. Now, I don’t particularly like spiders, but being a homeschool mom, I saw this spider as a golden opportunity!!
My younger children are interested in animals and real world science, so there are just some built in science lessons about the spider world we’ve been able to learn and teach. Each day, we check to see if he’s still alive, and we watch him during rain storms or high winds to see how he fairs. Besides the obvious science lesson, we’ve learned a few things about perseverance and work ethic. Spiders are hard workers, and often have to rebuild every rain and wind storm.
As much as I don’t like a spider, I’m thankful for the chance to teach my children good lessons based on this one’s life!
