Sewing Advice from 1949

This picture and sewing advice has been floating around the internet for a few years now.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, I thought I’d repost it here!

Some of it is quite funny-I don’t own white hand powder!

But there’s some wisdom here, too.

For example, the advice to get fully dressed and ready for your day,

right down to a pretty but practical pair of shoes,

is sound advice given by both a popular makeup company for their at-home sales representatives,

and a popular online organization personality.

Also, putting your housework before playtime on the sewing machine

is very good advice!

While my house and my hair aren’t perfect each time I sit down the machine,

I try to wait until I’m ready for my day,

and I do my dishes and a load of laundry each morning before sew time!

Seems to make sewing more pleasant and my day in general easier!

I hope this graphic makes you laugh,

but also think about how you approach your machine time!

  1. It is a little funny, but also sweet, and, as you said, good advice. It’s also assuming that sewing is a pleasure to be anticipated, and not a chore (right on for me, and I think, for you!)
